How One Song Inspired Me to Write a Short Film Script
By Batrisyia
Last semester, I had to write a script for a short film assignment. At first, I honestly had no idea what story I wanted to create because I did not want my script to feel too cliché or unrealistic. Then, while listening to Ingat, I suddenly started imagining scenes in my head.
The emotions in the song somehow matched a situation I once experienced myself, so I decided to create a story inspired by those feelings. Of course, I changed some parts of the story, but the emotions behind it were still real.
The story follows a music composer named Zaf and his longtime friend, Elina. I wanted their relationship to feel natural and realistic instead of overly dramatic. That is why most of the dialogue sounds casual, because I wanted audiences to feel like they were watching real people instead of fictional characters.
One of my favorite scenes was the bubble balloon scene at the park because it represented nostalgia and happiness before everything changed. I also liked how the “L sign” became a symbol between the two characters throughout the story.
Even though the script was inspired by personal emotions, writing it was actually fun because it allowed me to turn feelings into a story. Some scenes were difficult to write because they felt too real, especially the ending scene where Zaf meets Elina again after many years.
Unfortunately, my script was not selected. At first, I felt disappointed because I had put a lot of effort and emotion into writing it. However, after rereading the script again, I realized I was still proud of myself for creating something meaningful to me.
Sometimes, not every piece of work we create will be chosen or appreciated immediately. But I think what matters most is the fact that we had the courage to create something honest in the first place. Even though my script was never selected, it will always remain one of the most personal things I have ever written.
And to that one guy .... thank you for breaking my heart. Without realizing it, you gave me a story to write, a script to complete, and enough inspiration to finish my assignment. Things did not work out the way I once hoped, but at least something good came out of it.
You got a new chapter. I got good carry mark. I guess we both won. Lol
Your coolest girl,
