Why I Can’t Move On From Queen of Tears

By Awliya

I have watched many K-dramas before, but Queen of Tears is definitely one of the most memorable dramas for me. The main characters, Hong Hae-in and Baek Hyun-woo, made the story feel very emotional and realistic. At first, I watched the drama because it was trending everywhere, but I did not expect myself to become so attached to the storyline and characters. Honestly, this is one of the only dramas that I watched without skipping any scenes, even when I rewatched it again. Every episode felt meaningful, emotional, and important to the story.

One of the reasons why I relate so much to Hong Hae-in is because I can see a little bit of myself in her character. As the eldest daughter, I also do not really like sharing my problems or feelings with my parents. I usually keep everything to myself and try to solve things alone, just like Hae-in. Even though she looks cold and strong on the outside, deep inside she is actually struggling emotionally. That part of her character felt very realistic to me because sometimes eldest daughters are expected to stay strong no matter what happens.

What made Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s relationship even sadder was the reason why they slowly lost their spark after marriage. Their relationship started becoming distant after Hae-in suffered a miscarriage. Both of them were grieving, but instead of comforting each other properly, they slowly became emotionally disconnected. Hae-in became colder and focused more on work, while Hyun-woo started feeling lonely and exhausted in the marriage. I think this part of the story felt very realistic because sometimes people who are hurting do not know how to express their pain, and it slowly creates distance in a relationship even when they still love each other deeply.

The drama became even more emotional when Hae-in found out that she had a brain tumor. Despite being sick, she still tried to stay strong and hide her fears from everyone around her. What hurt the most was when she accidentally found out that Hyun-woo had once thought about divorcing her. At that moment, she was already emotionally weak because of her illness, so discovering that truth made her feel even more heartbroken. One of the saddest parts was when they went overseas to meet a doctor for her treatment, yet their relationship was still filled with misunderstandings and unspoken feelings. Even though Hyun-woo still loved her deeply, both of them struggled to communicate honestly with each other.

Besides the romance, I also really enjoyed the family conflict and plot twists in the drama. Baek Hyun-woo was one of the first people who became suspicious of Moh Seul-hee and Yoon Eun-sung because he understood the legal and financial issues happening inside Queens Group. He tried to warn Hae-in’s family many times, but nobody wanted to listen to him because they were already manipulated by Moh Seul-hee. It was honestly frustrating to watch because Hyun-woo was trying his best to protect the family, yet people still looked down on him because he came from a simple countryside background while Hae-in came from a very wealthy family.

One of my favorite plot twists was when the drama revealed that Hyun-woo was actually the one who saved Hae-in during the family holiday incident. That scene made me so emotional because it felt like they were truly destined for each other from the very beginning. Not only that, they had also met during their school days when Hae-in fell down and Hyun-woo, who was still a new student at that time, gave her a plaster. I really love small details like this because it shows that their connection existed long before they officially became husband and wife. It made their love story feel even more meaningful and fated.

What I love the most about Queen of Tears is that the drama does not focus on two people falling in love for the first time. Instead, it tells the story of a married couple who slowly lost their spark and emotional connection after years together, then slowly found their way back to each other again.

Watching Hae-in and Hyun-woo slowly understand each other again and rebuild their relationship felt very emotional and realistic to me. The drama showed that love is not always perfect, but sometimes people can fall in love with each other all over again even after marriage.

Overall, Queen of Tears became one of my favorite K-dramas because of its emotional storyline, realistic conflicts, beautiful plot twists, and meaningful relationship development. The drama made me laugh, frustrated, emotional, and cry at the same time. Most importantly, this is one of the very few dramas that I can rewatch without skipping any scenes because every moment feels important. That is why Queen of Tears will always have a special place in my heart.
